Annotated “A.Watteau” Framed
Provenance:
- Former Eugène SUSINI collection, his stamp (L.3769) lower right. His sale in Paris, Hôtel Drouot, Libert et Castor CP, October 27, 1982, lot N° 7 as "French School of the 17th century"
Very close to the architectural projects of Gregorio Da Ferrari, notably the one currently held at the Met Museum (INV. 55.628.8). Lyrical approach of the decor which here betrays the work of a painter rather than an architect. The annotation "A. Watteau" seems to be from the 18th century, but the drawing has nothing to do with his art. Perhaps to indicate that it was part of his personal collection? In very good condition, with the blue of the paper and the white gouache quite vibrant.
