Bordeaux, 1834 - Bordeaux, 1856
Normandy, village of stonemasons, landscape
Painting, oil on canvas
Signed and dated lower left (discreet): "Jh. Jules Bahans 1855"
Painting: 84 x 53 cm
Beautiful original frame: 106 x 74 cm (warning large size)
Very good condition, small discreet restorations (see back)
Note: The family of Joseph Jules Bahans traded in Rouennerie in Bordeaux (fabric made mainly in Rouen and Yvetot). It was probably during a commercial trip for the family supply that Bahans painted this painting. This landscape represents a village whose main activity is the extraction of stones from the quarry. The very clear contrast of shadows and light brings a mysterious shadow.
