"Pair Of Mahogany State Armchairs, Decorated With Griffin Lions, 19th Century. (104cm X 66cm)"
Exceptional pair of ceremonial armchairs dating from the early 19th century, circa 1820. They are made of solid mahogany, with an inverted back, and a griffin decoration, entirely carved from the block. The armrests are carved with winged lions, the wings themselves acting as armrests. The wings are carved on the inside and outside. The lion heads are topped with their manes, and finished with acanthus leaf falls. The front legs are represented by lion paws, with well-defined muscles, ending in lion claws at the end. The back legs are sabered. The upholstery of these armchairs has been recently redone in a white tone. These delightful seats are of very high quality, very robust and very opulent. Very imposing. Great cabinetmakers such as Jacob or Jean-Baptiste Demay made this type of seat. These armchairs are in good condition, note some old restorations on the molding around the backrest. Also note some very small stains on the fabric. Dimensions: 104cm high, 66cm wide, and 68cm deep.
