We present this beautiful and rare collector’s item: a glasses case dating from the early 18th century, once owned by Mgr Charles Le Goux de La Berchère (1647-1719). This is the first time we have encountered such an object. The coat of arms is stamped on each of the two sides of the case.
Mgr Charles Le Goux de La Berchère (1647-1719) was an influential French prelate. Born into a Burgundian family, he was educated at the Sorbonne and became chaplain to King Louis XIV. Appointed Bishop of Lavaur in 1677, he later became Archbishop of Albi, Aix, and finally Narbonne. He drafted synodal statutes for his dioceses and played a key role in the French Church of his time.
In excellent condition – the opening and interior are very well preserved, and the coat of arms retains remarkable freshness.
