Biography:

Willem van Mieris, a Dutch painter born and deceased in Leiden (1662-1747), hails from a family of artists. The younger brother of Jan Van Mieris and son of Frans Van Mieris the Elder, he benefited from his father's teachings from a young age.

In 1683, he joined the Guild of Saint Luke in Leiden and married Agneta Schapmann the following year. In 1694, he co-founded the Leiden drawing academy with Karel de Moor, which he directed until 1736. He also served as a commissioner and dean of the Guild.

Among his pupils were his son Franz van Mieris the Younger and Herman van der Myn. Despite losing his sight in his later years, Willem van Mieris left a significant artistic legacy.
