Watercolor on paper from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, depicting a view of boats sailing at dusk. Beautiful quality, signed lower right "A.Rey", a typical subject of the artist. Alphonse Rey (1864-1936) was a French painter and watercolorist, a student of Félix Ziem. He specialized in painting landscapes of the Provençal countryside and the Mediterranean coast, and made annual trips to Algeria, drawing inspiration from these places for his works. Rey notably produced watercolors such as "Ships in the harbor of Algiers" and "The Pointe des cyprès à Martigues". He was appointed curator of the Ziem Museum in Martigues and exhibited his works at the Salon des Artistes français, of which he became a member. Degas frame with wear.
