Rare pair of portraits from the second half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas artworks depicting two splendid male figures, a hunter with his dog and a player with a stringed instrument. Paintings of remarkable pictorial quality with traditional Eastern European costumes rendered with meticulous care and a refined sense of colour. The first character is depicted with a decorated headdress and a precious cloak with a fur collar, holding a rifle and with his inseparable hunting dog at his side. The second wears an oriental dress and plays a stringed instrument, probably the Saz, a type of lute of Turkish origin. The painting technique harks back to the Venetian production of the 18th century and the paintings can be attributed to the circle of the painter Giuseppe Angeli (1709-1798), also known for his costume portraits and character figures (the artworks are not currently accompanied by an expertise, but it is possible to obtain one upon payment of the relevant additional costs). 20th century frames in richly carved and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Paintings already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and recoloring in small spots. Overall in good state of conservation. Interior size H 93 x W 75 cm.
