Robert Delval was born in 1934 in Montmartre. His artistic education was forged with street painters in the neighborhood of his childhood, books and museums. At twenty-five, he left with only his brushes and notebooks to live the adventure in Europe, then in the United States… Back in France, he spent the spring and summer on the Mediterranean coast, the autumn and winter in Megève where he sold his watercolors to passers-by, among them Françoise Sagan. While he had dropped off a small gouache at a framer's in Montmartre, André Roussard noticed this view of the Luxembourg Gardens and asked the framer to tell the painter to come see him at the gallery. It was 1970, Robert Delval met André Roussard and thus his first dealer who would accompany him for more than thirty years. From the first exhibition, everything was sold. Together, they would mount numerous exhibitions in France, the United States and Europe (Belgium, Switzerland, etc.) and Robert Delval's works would enter the collections of very great art lovers. Robert Delval is a master of color. Through large flat areas, he knows how to play with perspectives and vanishing fields with great technical skill.
