"Aristodog By Thierry Poncelet"
Born in Brussels in 1946, Thierry Poncelet is an admirer of Granville. After studying at the Beaux-Arts, he joined a workshop to restore paintings. Faced with a rather ugly portrait of an aristocrat, he amused himself by replacing the face with an animal's head. He thus created the Aristochiens. From old paintings from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, found at flea markets and antique dealers, he created amusing, original portraits of dogs as magistrates, as dandies, like the one presented, also of little dogs in ball gowns. The portrait we present to you today is made from a 19th-century work, painted on wood. The signature appears at the bottom right. Note some small losses, notably on the frame. Panel dimensions 38 x 49. Frame dimensions 47 x 58.
