Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1863, where he received several awards for the quality of his work. Hippolyte Moreau is particularly known for his bronze or spelter sculptures depicting female figures, allegories, pastoral or mythological scenes, often in a romantic and graceful style, very popular in his time. His works, combining finesse, elegance and expressiveness, are still sought after today by collectors and lovers of 19th-century decorative art.
