"Gothic Railing With Frame. Wrought Iron, Wood. 16th Century. "
Gothic railing with frame. Wrought iron, wood. 16th century. A carved wooden frame supports the wrought iron grille, whose balusters are decorated: all have a heart shape in the center, while the axes are smooth at the top and spiral at the bottom for those with the heart facing upwards, and spiral at the top and smooth at the bottom for those with the point facing downwards. These heart shapes appear, for example, in the Gothic grille of Pamplona Cathedral or in the main chapel of Zamora Cathedral, or in the Monastery of Guadalupe. Thin square bars, often twisted, appear in Spanish ironwork from the 14th century. The "opening" of the vertical bars forming lozenges, hearts or more complex variants is visible in 15th century examples (Ávila Cathedral, etc.) - Size: 140x26x160 cms
