"Important Cast Iron Mortar Late 15th Century Planter Basin "
Very large cast iron mortar from the late 15th century. On three feet, with handles in the mass, themselves provided with rings (these may be later). Illegible raised inscriptions because eroded and covered with several layers of paint. The surface of the body has raised grooves on the circumference. This mortar was used as an outdoor planter, hence the layers of paint and the three small holes in the bottom. Its patina is very pretty. Good used condition, given its age (some marks of time, small lack at the top, erosion of the grooves and inscriptions...see photos). Magnificent object full of history. Diameter at the neck: 61. At the base: 36.6 cm
