A rare pair of six-panel screens painted on paper, depicting bird's-eye views of Hasedera Temple and Itsukushima Shrine.

The first shows Hasedera immersed in a spring landscape with pine trees and cherry trees in bloom; the second represents Itsukushima with the famous red torii emerging from the water and the shrine on stilts. Both scenes are enriched with hills and clouds gilded in gold dust, with silk and red lacquer frames.

Period: Early Edo period
Size: 173 x 369 cm.
Condition: Excellent. There are slight cracks in the paper, slight discoloration and wear to the silk frame consistent with age.
