Description:
Beautiful and important Venetian bureau chest, dating back to the Louis XV period, a refined example of 18th-century cabinetry.
The structure is characterized by a curved front, a typical shape known as "a balestra," and a sophisticated surface finish.
The piece is made of solid spruce wood, with an elegant walnut and walnut burl veneer covering its entire surface, skillfully arranged to create striking grain patterns and color contrasts: each element (drawers, flap, sides, top) is composed of a walnut “diana” arranged "end grain" and a central walnut burl panel. (The "end grain" veneering aligns the wood strips perpendicularly to the edge of the furniture or panel.)

The engraved bronze keyholes and handles integrate perfectly into the furniture’s design, adding a decorative touch without overwhelming the composition. The flap conceals a compartment fitted with small drawers and compartments, designed for storing documents and valuables.

The base, consisting of "end grain" moldings, follows the same contour, seamlessly connecting to the bracket feet that support the structure with lightness and elegance. The piece perfectly expresses the Venetian taste of the 18th century, where artisanal skill merges with refined stylistic research, creating a piece that is not only functional but also of great aesthetic impact. This piece has yet to be restored but is in excellent condition. The price includes restoration.
