"Saint Barbara Sculpture Italian School 18th Century"
A delightful Saint Barbara depictedwith the tower in which she was imprisoned by her father to protecther from the gaze of men, or according to another version of herlegend, from any attempt at Christian proselytism.
The Saint is elegantly dressed in a redrobe veiled with a drape falling in broken folds at the front.
A pearl necklace can be seen around herneck.
The face is delicately rendered, asoftness accentuated by the long, wavy locks of her hair falling overher shoulders.
Our sculpture demonstrates the grace of18th-century Italian sculpture. It is indeed a composition withserene and refined characteristics enhanced by emotional intensity.
