"Directoire Portico Clock - Late 18th Century Clockmaking "
Directoire portico clock signed Gentilhomme, Palais Royal in Paris

Superb portico clock in gilded and chiseled bronze, made during the Directoire (1795-1799).
It rests on an elegant rectangular white marble base, decorated with finely chiseled gilded ornaments.

The architecture is composed of two richly decorated columns, highlighting figures of Egyptian goddesses and foliage motifs. The white enamel dial, highlighted by an outline of palmettes, is supported by two majestic griffins. The whole is crowned with a flower basket, giving this piece remarkable harmony and refinement.
