"Italian Chest "
Large Italian chest, called casone, in walnut, on lion feet at the two front corners. This type of powerful furniture, built with thick boards that allow for an energetic and deep carving, was the ornament of Italian palaces from the 16th to the 17th century. We will notice the beautiful deep patina, with warm reflections, highlighting the vigorous carvings of palms and heraldic motifs. The corners are decorated with an atlante and a caryatid, which underline the architectural decoration of the furniture. Our chest still has its side carrying handles. Only the rear feet, invisible, have been partially restored.
