In fact, Maria Christina of Saxony was Princess Carignano, mother of King Carlo Alberto of Savoy. Born in Dresden in 1770, she married Charles Emmanuel of Savoy-Carignano in 1797 and settled in Turin. Here, he did not have an easy life at court because of his interest in the Enlightenment. Widowed in 1800, she married Count Thibault de Montléar eight years later. She was then buried in Turin in the Basilica of Superga in 1851.
