"Sketch By Gustave Guillomet: 2 Men Near A Tent In Algeria."
Gustave Guillaumet belongs to the generation of Orientalist painters who focused on rendering light and atmosphere. He marked a turning point in this 19th-century artistic movement. A student of François Édouard Picot (1786-1868) and Louis-Ernest Barrias (1841-1905) at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he exhibited at the Salon from 1861 to 1880. The drawing bears the studio stamp in the lower left corner and on the back.
