Oil on canvas signed Irène Lagut, an artist close to the avant-garde circles of the early 20th century, notably the circles of Jean Cocteau and Picasso, of whom she was a student and companion. The composition depicts two women, one of whom seems to be confiding a secret to the other with a flower in her hand. The scene, full of restraint and sensitivity, reflects the delicacy of Lagut's view of intimacy, feminine bonds and suspended moments. The subtle pastel palette reflects a post-impressionist influence tinged with discreet symbolism. Her technique, otherwise usually considered naive, is well mastered in this painting.
