It reflects Roman cultural practices where light played a central role in homes and temples. The addition of the scyphos motif, reminiscent of a Greek vase, illustrates the Greek influence on Roman art. This motif is associated with conviviality and banquets in Greek culture, was readapted by the Romans to enrich lamps while retaining their utilitarian function. The lamp thus served not only to illuminate, but also to symbolize the continuity of cultural and social traditions between the two civilizations.
