Provenances:
- Litta Visconti Arese family, probably acquired by Antonio Litta (1748 - 1820) Visconti directly from Bison
- Former collection Carlo Prayer (1826 - 1900) known as “Il capitano”, his mark at the bottom right (L.2044)
- Sotheby's, Catalog of important Old Master Drawings, 13 July 1972, n°41 reproduced (See below)
- Former collection Federico Falk, Italian industrialist
The lyricism of the hand of Bison in all its splendor, with a very pictorial and twirling touch, to represent this picturesque Italian scene of bandits crossing ruins where a mother takes care of her child. Beautiful example of pentimento with glued paper, quite rare and interesting to understand the artistic choice of structure of the composition. Note the various prestigious provenances of great Milanese families and collectors.
