Meissen, for handles
A complete cutlery set (fork, knife, spoon)
Painted porcelain and pompom
Meissen, Germany, circa 1750 - 1780
Dimensions : Knife length: 22 cm.
Very fine complete flatware, the handles in Meissen hard porcelain, painted with polychrome flower semis, and enhanced with wickerwork reliefs. The mounts are in pompom. This cutlery reflects the revival of tableware in the second third of the 18th century. Silverware was eclipsed by porcelain. Although porcelain was no longer a novelty, it was becoming increasingly popular, even among the petit bourgeoisie. The main reason for this is the use, in Germany and France, of hard pastes in Manufacures such as Meissen, as Europeans no longer have to rely so heavily on Asian imports, driving down the cost of this type of service.
Condition report: Normal wear to the pomponne and seedlings. No dents, no cracks.
