"Pair Of Beautiful Fo Dogs "
A fine pair of large blue-glazed porcelain Foo dogs in perfect condition. Foo dogs (or Fu, sometimes written as “Foo”) are traditional Chinese statues of guardian lions. Although called “dogs,” they are actually stylized representations of lions, an animal that did not occur naturally in China but was introduced through trade with India and other cultures. They are very common in imperial architecture, in front of Buddhist temples, palaces, royal tombs, and sometimes in front of wealthy homes or official buildings to symbolize protection.
