Metaphorical scene Two cockchafers and a vine, both symbols of immortality and the passage from life to death, illustrate an extract from Act III of Georges Bizet's opera (1875): "I hold you, damned young girl I hold you and will force you to undergo destiny Who rivets out of mine Should it cost me my life No Carmen, you will not leave"
