Anthropomorphic polychrome earthenware pitcher by Henriot Quimper, signed Maillard Charles (1876-1973), representing a Breton woman wearing her headdress and a checkered apron, from the 20th century. This pitcher is in good condition. Signed, see photos. Note: slight wear from time, see photos. * Charles Maillard (1876-1973) was a French sculptor and ceramist. He studied at the Regional School of Fine Arts in Angers — where he was taught by Brunelair — then moved to Paris where he attended the Académie Julian and joined the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts where he was a student in the studios of Louis-Ernest Barrias and Jules Coutan. From 1901, after his studies, Charles Maillard exhibited regularly at the Salon des artistes français. He received several medals and honorable mentions. Also known as a ceramist - among others for the national manufacture of Sèvres (contract of October 15, 1926) - the Breton theme appears in his work from 1926.
