" Pair Of Empire Wall Lights, Arms Of Light, Mercury-gilt Bronze Attributed To Claude Galle"
Pair of 3-arm sconces decorated with a lyre and palmettes in chased and mercury-gilt bronze. Attributable to Claude Galle, whose similarities and similar model can be found in the proportions of the sockets. Late Empire period or perhaps early Restoration, 1810s. Claude Galle (1759-1815), bronze-worker and founder-chaser, received master in 1786 and active rue Vivienne, supplied the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne under Louis XVI but also and especially under the Empire. He notably made deliveries for the châteaux of Trianons, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, Compiègne and the Tuileries Palace. Beautiful, simple and elegant model, superb quality of chasing and gilding in matte and shiny. Very good overall condition, not pierced for electricity, a discreet repair to one arm.
