Charles Kiffer, 1902-1992, French painter, draftsman, sculptor, engraver and poster artist born in Paris. He created the posters for shows of many stars of the Theater, Music Hall, Cinema and Circus such as Maurice Chevalier, Charles Trénet, Edith Piaf, Marcel Marceau, Marlène Dietrich, Edwige Feuillère, Yves Montand, Brigite Bardot, Grock, etc... Charles François Kiffer was born on June 8, 1902 in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. His mother taught piano and his father was a tailor, working for many actors. From 1918, he attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he was a student of Fernand Cormon. He married Suzanne Porte, a swimming champion, in 1924. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon d'Automne, and the Salon des Tuileries in Paris. He was a close friend of Edith Piaf and Maurice Chevalier, for whom he created his most famous posters and an album of drypoints. He also engraved medals for the Monnaie de Paris and created theater sets. He died on January 20, 1992, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. Artist listed in Bénézit, Coté Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
