"Mediterranean Port, 19th Century Watercolor. "
This large watercolor, enhanced with gouache, seems to depict a Mediterranean port. It is bustling with boats, sailing around anchored buildings with their sails folded. On the right, a steamer and a felucca are crossing the harbor. On the other side, several rowers, aboard a rowboat, are taking a person sitting under a shelter at the stern. The hilly landscape surrounding the port and the buildings makes me think of the Bosphorus, but without any certainty. It is framed by a marie-louise bearing the name JF Varre, a name for which we have found no information. A slight alteration of the watercolor, one centimeter wide, on the right edge should be noted, and the top left corner has a fold. 19th century period. Frame: Molded and gilded wood. Frame size: 46 cm x 65 cm. View: 32 cm x 52 cm.
