Umbrella stand in the guise of leaves
Bronze.
c. 1970.
This sculpture takes the form of an organic form, inspired by nature, built from a crown of oak leaves that rise upward, opening the composition with a dynamic, sculptural progression. The entire object faithfully reproduces the ribbing, contours and natural surface of the leaves, restoring materiality and vitality to the plant form.
Gabriella Crespi has always been able to combine the functionality of design with sculptural aesthetics, and this work is a perfect example. It is part of her research on the relationship between man and nature, matter and light. Crespi has often worked with bronze, elaborating objects that seem to transform into sublimated natural elements.
