Marcel Gillis (Mons, 1897 - Mons, 1972) is a Belgian painter, songwriter, and poet. He is one of the most prominent figures in the dialect life of Mons.
Marcel Hubert Gustave Gillis was born in Mons on March 6, 1897. He is the son of Louis Joseph Hubert Gillis (1873-1951), an upholsterer and then a funeral director, and Louisa Joséphine Jacobs (1874-1937), a hairdresser. A student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Mons, he created the group Les Loups in 1929.
