"Marine, 19th Century. "
From the first half of the 19th century, this watercolor depicts two ships sailing downwind. One is flying the English flag and seems to be crossing the path of the one flying a French flag; its gun ports are open and it is ready to engage in combat. The silhouettes of the sailors preparing for battle can be seen on the deck of each ship. This watercolor is in good overall condition, but the red of the French flag is faded and is hardly visible anymore. The work is preserved in a molded and gilded wooden strip which is in average condition. It is framed with a marie-louise on which is inscribed the name Fielding, a name for which we have not found any specific information. Period: first half of the 19th century. Frame dimensions: 48 cm x 59.5 cm, view: 31.5 cm x 41.5 cm.
