The artist
Charles Jean Agard was born in 1866 in Dordogne. He received a scholarship to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In the capital, he frequented Pissarro, Sisley and especially Puvis de Chavannes who encouraged him to exhibit his works. From 1893, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, then at the Salon d'Automne and at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He died in the Paris region in 1950.
He painted numerous landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. His works (and in particular his academies) have been the subject of numerous public auctions. Some of them are exhibited at the Louis-Senlecq Museum of Art and History in Isle Adam.
