Object description :

"Rembrandt (after) Claussin : "the Return Of The Prodigal Son""
Rembrandt (1606-1669) (after) engraved by Ignace Joseph de Claussin (1795-1844): "The Return of the Prodigal Son", etching on laid paper 18.3 X 21.7 cm.
Cut to the image, trace of signature "Rembrandt" at the bottom left, old traces of glue on the back, a general veil on the engraving, small fold at the top left and pinprick at the bottom left. Circa 1830.
De Claussin, a remarkable etcher, was a great admirer of Rembrandt, of whom he also produced a catalog raisonné of the prints. He also produced engravings after the Master, including this one which is the interpretation of a pen and sepia wash drawing from 1642.
