"Oceanic Sculpture Abelam Ethnicity "
Oceanian statue in the Maprik region of the Abelam ethnic group in Papua New Guinea. A mountain people who remained unknown for a long time until the 1960s and 1970s. Dense wood sculpture featuring a face typical of this region topped with a monumental headdress featuring hornbill bird heads. Body engraved with designs and traces of natural pigments. We will appreciate the asymmetry of this sculpture which is reminiscent of Modigliani's portraits. Imposing piece mounted on a base. 120cm base included.
