Biography:
Nacera KAINOU
French painter and sculptor, born in 1963, originally from Meussia in the Jura.Nacéra Kainou began her training at the regional school of fine arts in Besançon (Doubs), from 1984 to 1989, and studied drawing and painting there. Upon completing her studies, she obtained a certificate of plastic initiation, a national diploma in plastic art with honors and a national higher diploma in plastic expression, then joined the professional art school The Art Students League of New York (United States) from 1989 to 1991, in the sculpture department from 1986 to 1989.
The transition to sculpture proved crucial for Nacera, providing her with a medium through which she was able to finely balance the tensions between form and substance.
Her reliefs, characterized by a meticulous study of matter, demonstrate a profound understanding of the complex dimensions of life. At the age of 23, Nacera Kaïnou undertook a transformative journey to the United States, spending three years at the Art Students League of New York.
Here, she honed her skills and absorbed the principles of sculpture, enriching her artistic repertoire. For the past three decades, Nacera has made her home in Paris, devoting her artistic efforts to exploring the human and animal form, with a particular emphasis on portraiture.
Her artwork, resonating with a profound understanding of the human experience, has found a home in many countries, including France, China (Beijing, Shanghai), Singapore, Jerusalem, Mauritania, Senegal, and South Korea. Nacera Kaïnou's contributions to the art world have not gone unnoticed. In 2013, she was awarded the title of "Chevalier des Arts et Lettres," recognizing her significant impact on the cultural landscape. In 2014, she was named Official French War Artist, a testament to the versatility and depth of her artistic expression.
She was appointed to the rank of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2013 and was awarded the title of Approved Painter of the Armed Forces, specializing in Army Painter in 2014. One of her sculptures, a bust representing Charles de Gaulle, was chosen to be the official gift, presented on March 27, 2014, during a ceremony at the Grand Trianon in the Park of Versailles, by the President of the French Republic François Hollande to the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping during his state visit to France.
A distinguished member of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, Nacera is also an elected member of the board of directors of the "Maison des Artistes" committee, demonstrating her commitment to the artistic community. In 2022, her dedication and contributions were further recognized as she received the Gold Medal of Honor for her commitment to the French overseas territories, alongside the prestigious insignia of Knight of the Legion of Honor.
