"Pair Of Louis XV Period Natural Wood Console Tables"
Pair of consoles in natural wood molded and carved with fretwork shapes; the belt openwork with acanthus leaves and decorated with garlands of flowers. Uprights connected by a spacer decorated with burst shells. Louis XV period circa 1750 Very good condition. These consoles have been revised, cleaned, treated and waxed in our workshop. H x W x D = 80x 80 x 45 cm These consoles are made of alder, a fairly soft wood (ideal for carving) but elastic which is mainly used in the manufacture of furniture in the 18th century. Its structure is very fine, which is why it is also used for the manufacture of instruments. Yellowish when the tree is alive, it becomes red on contact with the air. Semi-hard, soft and brittle, alder wood is particularly appreciated by clog makers, turners and other sculptors for its malleability. It is not impossible that they were lacquered in the 18th century (like many seats and consoles at the time). Probably restored to their natural state in the 19th century as was the fashion.
