I am selling them at your choice, either €190 each, or €300 for 2 or €1000 for a set of 6. These drawings representing nudes, some standing, from the back, sitting... are therefore typical of the art of Paul Thomas, powerful, therefore in charcoal, most enhanced with pastel or white chalk. Made in 1908, Paul Thomas's mature period, a time when he drew a lot, especially in Paris. I no longer present Paul Thomas, emblematic Limoges painter, surely one of the most gifted of his generation as his friend Léon Jouhaud, also his biographer, will mention. He is indeed one of the best Limousin painters as well as the Crozant school alongside Bichet (his faithful friend), Detroy, Alluaud, Guillaumin etc... together they will exhibit regularly at the Dalpayrat gallery in Limoges. But Paul Thomas will also be a faithful friend of Maximilien Luce whom he will meet in Paris, their works are also quite close. Paul Thomas born March 30, 1868 in Limoges where he died January 27, 1910 is a French painter. He first studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Limoges, then left for Paris where he studied architecture for a time. He eventually found his way into the painting studio of Jean-Léon Gérôme, where he was commissioned to decorate the Café Procope in Paris. He studied the work of Vincent van Gogh closely. Around 1897, Paul Thomas returned to Limoges and became friends with Charles-Théodore Bichet, a popular professor at the National School of Decorative Arts. He participated in various exhibitions until his death; he was subsequently often represented in retrospectives devoted to the Limousin landscape. Charles-Théodore Bichet and Léon Jouhaud held Paul Thomas's work in high esteem. Marcel Merguiller reports that in the vestibule of Charles-Théodore Bichet's studio there were many drawings by Paul Thomas, a friend of Bichet, who had frequented his studio for several years. Léon Jouhaud published Une Vie d'artiste on the life and work of Paul Thomas in 1935. He died prematurely on January 27, 1910, affected by syphilis, hence the rarity of his works today. His popularity was first regional, then national before being international today due to the quality of his work, amateurs are not mistaken, he is regularly compared to painters such as Albert Lebourg or Maximilien Luce.
