Note: Charles Christofle (1805-1863), a jeweler, founded the company in 1830 and registered his hallmark in 1832. In 1851, Emperor Napoleon III commissioned Christofle to produce official Empire dinner services. Its titles of King's Goldsmith and Emperor's Supplier enabled the company, which had become famous, to be commissioned by foreign sovereigns such as the Emperor of Mexico and the Tsar of Russia.
