This Indo-Persian tradition of Kalamkari, or reed painting, is inherited from the 18th century, as can be seen in miniatures or carpets. Large cotton canvas hand-woven and printed with a wood block in vegetable colors on the edges. The center is painted with human figures, musicians and dancers. These large canvases decorated Persian tea rooms and served as a backdrop for storytellers who narrated episodes from Shah-nameh, the oldest epic of the kings of Persia.
