Our painting shows remarkable pictorial qualities and it is possible to attribute it to the close circle of another portrait painter, who had enormous success in Rome in the second half of the seventeenth century, under the star of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, it is Gian Battista Gaulli known as Baciccia (Genoa 1639 - Rome 1709). Stylistically deriving from his portraits are the chromatic harmony of colors and contrasts and the vigor and relief of the anatomy of the figure, as well as a quick and pictorial brushstroke.
The painting was relined in the nineteenth century, at which time the nineteenth-century carved and lacquered frame was probably applied.
The measurements including the frame are: 51cm x 63cm high.
We enclose with the sale a historical certificate of authenticity.
