The icon is signed lower left in Cyrillic "P Soubbotine" and dated "1894, May 23".
Due to its large dimensions, this work likely adorned the interior of a Russian Orthodox church.
The icon is finely painted in tempera in rich tones on a wooden panel.
The style is westernized.
Very good original condition. Some cracks, wear and small losses on the edge.
