Antique Victorian silver-plated magnum bottle coasters, Rococo Revival & Neoclassical styles, c. 1880s
A superb pair of large antique Victorian silver-plated bottle coasters, dating to around 1880s, designed for magnum-sized bottles. Each coaster features a bombe-shaped body with an elegant pierced gallery, resting on richly grained mahogany bases with a warm, polished patina. The central recessed bosses are crafted to cradle bottles securely in place.
The ornate borders are a particular highlight: each wide rim is finely decorated in high relief with an exuberant Rococo Revival design of scrolling acanthus leaves and detailed flowerheads, evoking the opulent grandeur of 18th-century decorative arts. The profusion of naturalistic motifs also echoes elements of Neoclassical design, popular in Victorian England for its refined, symmetrical interpretation of ancient Roman and Greek aesthetics.
Finished with green baize underneath to protect tabletop surfaces, these coasters offer both beauty and practicality. They would make an impressive addition to any formal dining setting, perfect for those who collect Victorian silverware, entertain with vintage elegance, or seek a distinguished accent for a curated interior.
