Tea box, natsume, for the macha tea of the tea ceremony. In black lacquered wood with decorations of "genji ko no zu" in gold and silver makie lacquer, and nashiji representing bamboo (vitality), pine (resilience) and plum blossoms (prosperity). The Genji-Ko-no-Zu represents the process of identifying five different incense scents in Kōdō, the traditional Japanese art of appreciating incense. The same scents are connected by horizontal lines drawn between the five vertical lines, forming an elegant and symbolic pattern.
