A rare pair of Louis XVI period armchairs, stamped by Henri Jacob, who became a master in 1779. This pair of armchairs has a molded back and ends in a gendarme hat. The horseshoe-shaped seat rests on a fluted and rudenté base, and the connecting canopies are carved with antique metopes. The armrest consoles are slightly twisted to fit the curve of the seat. The inside of the belt has been hollowed out with a gouge in the style of the great master cabinetmakers of the 18th century such as Georges Jacob and Sene, in particular to lighten the shaft of the armchair. The inside of the belt is covered with its original Meudon white primer. Identical model upholstered with La Fontaine's fables sold for 2820 euros at Daguerre, November 29, 2022, lot 157. This pair of armchairs is presented in their original condition, the lacquer and upholstery fabric needing to be redone. Usual restoration at the ends of the rear legs of one of the armchairs.
