Léopold Gruat: Large Louis XVI Style Sterling Silver Jewelry Box. Early 20th Century.

Superb and large solid silver jewelry box lined with velvet.

The box is rectangular, with all sides outlined with a pearl frieze and decorated with rudentée channels.
The lid is adorned with a large oval cartouche held by a charming ribbon knot and itself holding two palm leaves, also knotted.

The register is in the style of the reign of Louis XVI with this neoclassical ornamentation.

The bottom of the box is made of leather.

The interior of the box is lined with purple velvet.

The box is hallmarked:
. Boar's head hallmark for solid silver since 1838.
. LG silversmith hallmark with a crane for Leopold Gruat, a Parisian silversmith active from 1904. Rectangular hallmark with the silversmith's initials

Superb box with a very opaque neoclassical decoration that catches the light and gives it a strong decorative effect.
