The grip is lyre-shaped.
The oval die is superbly engraved with a coat of arms under a Marquis's crown flanked by two greyhounds. They can be emblazoned as follows: sable, three scallops of ?
If it's silver, it could be the Rouxel family. If it's gold scallop, it could be the Robert family, Lord of Moulin Henriet. But I haven't found a marquis for either family; the truth may lie elsewhere...
The seal has been tested with a touchstone. There is a mark that could be a hallmark on the grip, but I'm not sure. A very fine 18th-century seal with beautiful, high-quality engraving.
