Marius Ernest Sabino (1878-1961) was born in 1878 inItaly. He was an Italian-born Parisian who attended L’EcoleNational des Arts Decoratifs and the Beaux Arts de Paris. He won numerous prizes in Europe for his art and wasawarded the Knight of the Legion d’Honneur for his contributions to French artand industry. Sabino experimented with glass and by 1925 he had createdhis own chemical formula for opalescent glass. The result is that in low lightthe glass often appears white or bluish like ice in a glacier, but withbrighter or more direct light, many of the pieces turn a subtle golden color.As if by magic. Ernest died in 1961.
