"Siphon Coffee Maker Known As A Balance Coffee Maker, Napoleon III Period"
A siphon coffee brewing machine, known as a "balancer," dating from the second half of the 19th century. It consists of a ribbed white porcelain reservoir with a cork stopper, an alcohol burner on a glass base, a blown glass container with a patinated brass lid, and a brass and gilt bronze structure supporting the whole. The system rests on a porcelain stepped base. Invented in the mid-19th century, the siphon coffee maker operated on a principle of steam pressure and counterweight, allowing for a gradual brewing of the coffee, highly prized for its precise infusion. Very satisfactory condition, original elements preserved.
