A very beautiful piece of craftsmanship in red copper with a large capacity, this ferrat, or liquid measure, is riveted and hammered by hand using old craft techniques.
The presence of firmly riveted vertical and horizontal reinforcements, the forged handles and the warm patina of the copper testify to a manufacture prior to industrialization, which can reasonably be dated from the end of the 18th century to the very beginning of the 19th century.
The stamp “JMBERT FILS”, in cold-stamped letters, attests to the provenance of a large boilermaking workshop, probably active in the provinces. With its straight cylindrical shape, its contained height (28 cm) and especially its large diameter (36 cm), this type of container is more intended for liquids (wine or water).
Probably a wine measure, used for transferring or measuring liquids in cellars or presses. The wide shape allowed for good stability when filling.
Dimensions: Height: 28 cm x Diameter: 36 cm
Condition: Very beautiful old patina. Consistent signs of use (green oxidation of the copper, slight shocks, visible hammering). Authentic object, not restored.
